quanty Enterovirus

The quanty Enterovirus system is an in vitro diagnostic test for identification and quantification of of 5’UTR region of Enterovirus RNA, by RT-Real-Time PCR.

There are more than 100 subtypes of enteroviruses that infect humans, including the well-known enterovirus 71 (EV71), enterovirus D68 (EVD68), coxsackieviruses A and B, and poliovirus (PV), and several subtypes of these induce hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) epidemics every year. Poliovirus classically causes a paralytic poliomyelitis with weakness and paralysis. Other enteroviral diseases include upper respiratory infections, herpangina, myositis, myocarditis, aseptic meningitis, encephalitis. Patients with B-cell immune defects are susceptible to chronic enterovirus infections including chronic meningoencephalitis. Patients undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may develop potentially life-threatening gastroenteritis and viral pneumonitis. Molecular diagnostics and characterisation of circulating enterovirus strains are the first step towards effective and continuous surveillance activities, which will be used to provide better estimation on EV disease burden.
